We will finish chapter 22 in The American Pageant,"The Ordeal of Reconstruction". You should have some time to work on the questions below. We will also look at Lincoln's 2nd Inaugural Address (go here)

I'll hand out a reading packet for the trip, but we will be having a test on Monday. I will post some things you will need to know about the Reconstruction on the blog tomorrow.

5) What was the Freedman's Bureau?  Accomplishments?
6)Why was Andrew Johnson included on the Republican ticket in 1864?
7)  What was Lincoln's plan for Reconstruction?
8)  What was the Wade-Davis Bill?

Things that you will needed to know for the test: 13th, 14th, and 15th amendment and why they happened. Lincoln's, Johnson's, and the Radical Republican's plans for reconstruction. Why Johnson was impeached? Why Johnson's was on the 1864 presidential ticket? Why did the Ku Klux Klan come into being, and whether or not Reconstruction was effective.

1. What did Lincoln see as being the only way to make sure slavery was abolished forever?

2. What did the 13th Amendment accomplish?

3. What did the 14th Amendment establish?

4. How did many southern states attempt to get around the 15th Amendment?

5. Why do you believe the 14th Amendment did not extend rights to all people and why did it take so long to correct errors of the 15th Amendment?
